The Beginning

Welcome!

You've stumbled into Digital Wargaming Diary: The California Years.

This blog will show you many of my wargaming exploits from 2001 to 2013, a time when I was very active with various miniature gaming groups, individuals - and the occasional gaming convention - in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Here's a sample of the groups I gamed with:

GWC (Gourmet Wargaming Group) - still active in Santa Rosa and beyond
Western Warlords - formerly in Oakland
EBAG (East Bay Area Gamers) - formerly in Oakland, El Cerrito, and Richmond
MWSS (Miniature Wargaming Society of Sacramento)
SBGC (South Bay Gaming Club)

I started documenting the games right after buying my first digital camera, an Olympus D-490 Zoom 2.1 megapixel monster!

I'll offer some commentary on the photo sets as the memories resurface. Note that the early photos show the miniatures only. I soon came to realise that it would be a good thing to document people and venues as well, so you'll have a "wider" visual experience as you go forward in time.

This is all about nostalgia. Humour me, and see if you recognise any faces.

    Enjoy,

Mister War, aka Warman, aka Warhead, aka War

P.S. I'm trying to stick with Aotearoa New Zealand English spellings on this blog rather than American, since I'm writing this from an island nation deep in the Southern Hemisphere. Mā te wā!
